My 10 month old son prefers pureed. Is this a problem?

My 10 month old son prefers pureed baby food. We have tried him on different textures, but he won't eat much of the other texture. If we don't offer him anything but a mashed or lumpy texture, he is up during the night hungry. We don't want to have texture issues when he is older. We are confused at what to do. Our doctor says that he will eat the texture food if he is hungry and to limit the formula....sure he does eat it but not enough of it and then he is up several times during the night. Is it a bad thing to have most of his diet be pureed at his age? What do we do? Will he eventually outgrow the pureed or is this going to be a problem down the road if we don't act on it now? FYI, he was eating finger foods (soft green beans, tofu, etc a month ago and now will barely even touch it). HELP!
