What should I do about getting new eyegles?

In July, I had trouble seeing and consulted with an optometrist who takes my medical insurance. He said that I had a cataract and it could probably be corrected with a new eyegl prescription. My vision insurance, which is separate from my medical insurance, allows me to get gles every other year. I am not eligible until April 2008, but they have a medical exception form where, if I have a medical condition necessitating a new prescription, they will allow it. I had the optometrist fill out the form and send it in. I waited a few weeks and didn't hear anything, so I called the vision insurance company. They said because the doctor that filled out the form wasn't one of their participating providers, the form was invalid. Then I asked if I could go to one of their providers and was informed that I was ineligible until April. It's a Catch-22. Since I need two pairs - one for distance and one for close-up and eyegles run about $550 a pair, what should I do?
