Is it possible to build an LCD panel into a desktop?

I'm trying to make a modded desktop that's built into a briefcase, and i'd like to build *just* the LCD screen into the embly without trying to fit the whole monitor in there. Is there a way to do that if i bought an LCD replacement panel or do I need some kind of controller set up? I'd say my tech experience is moderately accomplished but i'm used to working with regular hardware.
